Trump grants Rep. Jim Jordan the Medal of Freedom, credits his defense during impeachment

President Trump on Monday awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rep. Jim Jordan, the Ohio Republican who served as Trump’s defender at Congress during his presidency.

A White House statement credits Jordan with its efforts to fight the Democratic-led impeachment effort against President Trump last year, which ended without a Senate conviction.

“At the beginning of last year, Jordan was appointed a senior member of the House Judiciary Committee and led the effort to tackle the impeachment witch hunt,” said the White House. “He is an inspiration to freedom-loving Americans everywhere and has stood out as one of the most important members of Congress of his generation.

The president also presented the award last week to Congressman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., Another ally in Congress.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the nation’s greatest civilian tribute. According to the White House, it is awarded by the president to individuals “who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace or to cultural activities or other significant public or private initiatives”.

Jordan has served in Congress for the past 14 years and served on the House Oversight Committee. The White House assigned him oversight of the Obama, IRS and Benghazi era “Fast and Furious” controversies.

“In addition, he also worked to unmask Russia’s hoax and tackle Deep State corruption – confronting senior Justice Department officials for obstructing Congress and exposing the fraudulent origins of the collusion with Russia,” said the White House . “His work helped to unearth bad faith at the highest levels of the United States government.”
