Former President Trump on Friday night called for a boycott of Major League Baseball, Coke and Delta Airlines – and all other companies that have withdrawn from Georgia or protested the state’s controversial new electoral reform project.
The Republican called for a boycott in a statement he issued hours after the MLB announced it was withdrawing the Atlanta All-Star Game in response to the bill, which President Biden labeled “Jim Crow in the 21st century”.
“Baseball is already losing a huge number of fans and now they are leaving Atlanta with their All-Star game because they are afraid of radical Left Democrats who do not want the voter title, which is extremely necessary, to have something to do with our elections, ”said Trump’s statement.
“Boycott baseball and all companies that are interfering in free and fair elections. You are listening to Coca, Delta and everything! “
On Wednesday, the Coca Cola CEO of Atlanta appeared on CNBC’s “Power Lunch” to oppose the project’s voting restrictions after a growing chorus of critics called for a boycott of Coca against the company’s silence after approval of the project on March 25.
On the same day, Delta’s CEO classified the bill as “unacceptable” and “based on a lie” after the Georgia company was criticized for not speaking out against the measure.
The new law led by the GOP includes new restrictions, including identification requirements, on voting by mail and limits the number of boxes for sending ballots.
Legislative control over state elections increases, measures that, according to conservatives, will improve electoral integrity.
Democrats said the law was full of “voter suppression tactics” and a response to the fact that Georgia turned blue in the 2020 election, a result that Trump falsely claimed was due to fraud.
