Tramon Williams visiting Green Bay and is expected to sign, by report

Tramon Williams is in Green Bay for a free agent visit with the Packers on Wednesday and must sign if things go well, according to Tom Silverstein of Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. The 37-year-old cornerback was dismissed by the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week after his playoff loss to Buffalo Bills.

Williams appeared in six regular season games with the Ravens this year, after signing mid-season. He recorded 169 snaps on defense as a reserve corner, including 55 snaps in the Ravens’ victory over the Giants.

If he gets hired, he probably won’t have many repetitions, but given his familiarity with the Packers system, he can be a worthwhile piece of depth – if only so that the Packers don’t end up turning to Josh Jackson in a situation. -key.

As Silverstein noted in his report, Williams could also provide some reliability as a punt return, given Tavon Austin’s inconsistency there. He served as the Packers’ top punt returner in 2010 and also served that role for a while in 2018.

If (and apparently when) Williams joins the Packers, it will be his third pass in green and gold. He originally joined the Packers training squad in 2006 before serving as a key member of the 2007-13 Packers secondary. After three years away from Cleveland and Arizona, Williams returned to the Packers in the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Williams made it to the Pro Bowl in 2010, a season highlighted by his legendary pick-6 in the Packers’ Divisional Round victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
