‘Totally corrupt’ Cuomo must resign to save lives

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Sunday asked Governor Andrew Cuomo to step down from his “quasi-imperial government” – insisting it will help save lives.

“He should resign now because he is delaying our effort to fight COVID. He’s literally preventing us from saving lives right now, ”de Blasio insisted in an impassioned interview on CBS’s“ Face the Nation ”program.

“Andrew Cuomo cannot lead us to the future. We have the people, the state is ready to reopen, but we need to get it out of the way for that, ”said the mayor.

The mayor repeatedly targeted his longtime opponent throughout the interview, blaming him for the Empire State response to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as preventing the supply of vaccines to the Big Apple.

He also accused him of deliberately hiding the number of deaths caused by the virus in nursing homes in order to continue to receive millions in “campaign contributions”.

“It was a totally corrupt situation and he just needed to resign,” said de Blasio.

But Hizzoner predicted that Cuomo would not resign and would instead have to be impeached.

“I think he will try to resist … I think he is used to doing things his way, and it has been almost an imperial government,” predicted de Blasio.

“But I have to tell you, the people of this state and the political leadership no longer believe in him – he has no credibility,” insisted de Blasio.

“I think an impeachment process will start. And I think he will be impeached, and maybe just before that, he will decide to resign. This is probably the most likely outcome now, ”he predicted.

De Blasio made the call without mentioning the allegations of sexual harassment that Cuomo is facing, which has sparked many of the demands for his resignation.

On Thursday, Assembly Democrats gave the go-ahead for an impeachment investigation of the governor.
