Tory Lanez wants his voice to be heard.
The “Luv” singer filed a motion on Tuesday seeking to change the terms of a protection order that prevents him from publicly commenting on his ongoing case with Megan Thee Stallion.
In court documents provided to Page Six, Lanez’s legal team says the current order – issued on November 18 – is “significantly damaging” to the 28-year-old and “undermining his right to a fair and judicial process”.
Megan, 25, is not subject to the terms of the judicial protection order and Lanez’s lawyers highlighted in the new motion how she has been vocal about the case on social media.
Earlier this month, rapper “Body” appeared to beat Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, on Twitter after inaccurate reports alleging the charges against him were dropped online.
“Bitch, you shot me AND MY STORY DID NOT CHANGE AND BUT YOU’RE GOING TO CHAIN”, she tweeted.
Megan also summoned Lanez earlier in the summer, almost a month after the alleged shooting incident.
“Yes, that n-um Tory shot me,” she claimed on Instagram Live. “You shot me and made your publicist and your people access these blogs by lying and giving up. Stop lying. Why lie? “
“In contrast to Mr. Peterson’s silence, Megan [Pete] authored and posted six tweets to her 5.6 million followers on Twitter in quick succession, ”Lanez’s lawyers said in the motion on Tuesday, adding that the current order has banned the“ Say It ”rapper from commenting on the “Inflammatory statements”.
Before the protection order, Lanez maintained his innocence on social media and in his music.
He said in an Instagram speech in October: “She knows what happened, I know what happened, and we know what you’re saying and [that] the supposed things and the alleged accusations of my name is [sic] they are not true. “
In September, he also released a new song entitled “Money Over Fallouts”, in which he sang: “How the hell did you get shot in the foot, didn’t you hit any bones or tendons?”
A source told Page Six that Lanez’s team wants the protection order to be suspended in order to “be able to freely discuss what his lawyer [has been] given away.”
According to court documents, Lanez’s lawyers say there is new evidence that supports the rapper’s innocence and allegedly “contradicts” Megan’s statements.
“This evidence – including firearm residues involving other people – is mitigating, if not justifying, and casts serious doubts about the allegations made by Megan [Pete], ”Affirm the documents. “In addition to the scientific evidence, the People are aware, the witnesses who observed the alleged facts also provide information that involves other people.”
In November, Lanez pleaded not guilty to a felony assault charge with a semi-automatic firearm and possession of an unregistered loaded gun in a vehicle. He faces up to 22 years and eight months in prison if convicted. A hearing is scheduled for February 25.
Megan’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, told Page Six on Tuesday exclusively: “The motion failed to mention that there was bullet residue in his hands or that he texted her ‘Sorry?’ I didn’t get a chance to read. ”
Lanez’s representative did not immediately return our request for comment.
