Tony Romo was removed from the Cardinals-Rams transmission by the COVID-19 protocols

Tony Romo will not call Sunday’s game against the Cardinals and Rams on CBS because of the COVID-19 protocols, the network announced Saturday.

Boomer Esiason will take Romo’s place alongside Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for the Week 17 game scheduled for 4:25 pm

CBS did not say whether Romo, 40, tested positive for coronavirus or was in close contact with someone who did. The networks allowed broadcasters to call home games during the pandemic, but the window for CBS to set up the equipment needed for Romo, if he is healthy enough to work, could be tightened.

The former Cowboys defender signed a 10-year, $ 180 million contract with CBS in February, worth about $ 17 million a year, making him the highest-paid analyst in the NFL.
