Today I learned how to mute the PS5 audio with the DualSense controller

Did you know that you can mute all system audio by simply holding the mute button on the DualSense for about a second? I have had a PS5 for months, but only now have I realized that this hidden feature exists after watching a YouTube video that the algorithm served me. You will know it is working when the orange light changes to blink softly, so you will not hear any sound from the system.

Apparently, this trick works to disable all audio, no matter what the audio source is, whether it’s your speakers, headphones connected to the controller’s 3.5mm jack, a wireless gaming headset, or one connected by through one of the console’s USB ports. Even though DualSense has some limited support for PC, this feature is exclusive to PS5, it seems.

This video is not the exclusive source of this information and does not seem to have been the first to discover that the function exists. A Google search for this feature shows that a steady stream of players are accidentally bumping into it on an ongoing basis, perhaps as more PS5 consoles become available for purchase.

Considering that the console is still difficult to buy, let alone finding it in stock, I thought it would be useful for anyone reading this and trying their luck to get one. I’m not sure if I would have ever found out for myself if I hadn’t received that video too.

It is a useful feature, although it may take a little practice to take advantage of this feature compared to my usual muting method, which is just to rip my headphones off.
