In the video, Carolina first wiped the surface of a passata sauce bottle using a damp paper towel to remove all stickers and bar codes.

Using a brush, she painted two layers on the jar to make sure that the glass cannot be seen.

To make it look like the jar is made of ceramic, she mixed the baking soda in a bowl of paint beforehand.

The abrasive texture of baking soda will create a rough surface in the jar, instead of a smooth finish.

Those painting on a limited budget may consider buying small sample paint pots from Bunnings to decorate a number of different colored vases.

As soon as the paint had dried, Carolina wrapped the string in the glass bottle.

TIPS ON PAINTING VASES

Both glass and ceramic pots can be used

Use sample paint vases from Bunnings Warehouse to keep your budget and choose a variety of colors

Any paint can be used, as long as it is water based

Use as much bi-carb soda as necessary to create the desired texture

Paint the inside, outside and bottom of the vase too

Make sure all the paint is dry before adding another coat of paint, otherwise it will peel off

Add as many layers as you like – the more paint is added, the more authentic it will look

The craft project is fun and simple to make on a weekend and the nasty second-hand vases turn into chic, modern vases that will fill any monotonous corner

Others, on Facebook and TikTok, described the DIY tactic as ‘brilliant’ and the end results as ‘beautiful’.

‘So beautiful!’ one person said online, another added: ‘Trying this weekend!’

Transformed pots can also be used as plant pots to light up the garden or can be used to store artificial foliage indoors.
