This PlayStation DVR add-on is back in Japan and will have support for PS5

As Microsoft launches live TV listings on OneGuide for Xbox One, an earlier effort by Sony that brought live TV and even DVR features to the PlayStation is returning. In 2010, Sony launched a live TV tuner for the PS3 called Torne, and eventually followed up with Nasne, a combined device that combined the tuner with an integrated hard drive and support for streaming media. He eventually supported the PS4 as well, but died anyway.

Now Engadget Japan informs us that Nasne is back, now manufactured by a different company Buffalo, but with similar dreams of serving as a headless DVR unit that pulls TV streams for viewing on your PlayStation console or mobile device. The product page reveals that, along with upgraded integrated storage, it is now capable of supporting up to 6 TB of external storage and you can combine multiple drives to record more than one channel at a time

A pre-order page is active on Amazon Japan, where it will cost 29,800 yen ($ 273) for a unit with 2 TB of storage and, yes, a PS5-ready application will arrive by the end of the year. The new software will do nothing for its design, which is still done to match the PS3, but what’s wrong with a setback?
