Thief catches TV reporter and crew while filming in Ecuador

A TV reporter and his team were robbed while filming in Ecuador – with their images capturing the shocking moment when the armed thief aimed a gun directly at them.

Football reporter Diego Ordinola shared video of the thug waving a bronze gun on Friday afternoon while the DirecTV Sports team was filming outside the Estadio Monumental stadium in Tarqui, Guayaquil.

“Telephone!” the armed thief shouted, pointing a gun directly at Ordinola and stealing the microphone he was using.

The thief, wearing a shirt and cap with a mask-covered face, raised the gun to the cameraman, before taking a phone from someone on the right of the scene.

The DirecTV Sports camera rotated throughout the theft and as they followed after a break – filming him being carried away on the back of a motorcycle.

“We can’t even work in peace,” Ordinola wrote when sharing the clip, saying the police had “promised to find these criminals.”

His post was flooded with good luck, as well as several people who used the footage to identify a possible motorcycle license plate number used for the escape. It was not immediately clear whether there were any arrests or if there were any known suspects.

On a follow-up message thanking his followers for their “messages of solidarity”, Ordinola wrote: “We will unite to eradicate crime in Ecuador”.
