Apex Legends players know that having an SMG R-99 by their side is the key to achieving victory. However, there are some tips you can use in battle to really master this fast weapon.
The R-99 SMG is one of the top tier weapons to use in Apex Legends, so choosing one is a great way to give yourself a chance to become the Apex Champion.
However, the fast submachine gun is a weapon that can also be quite complicated to handle. Your recoil is one of the most difficult to control in the game and to do 198 total damage, you will need to hit 90% of the rounds of ammo rounds – which can be difficult at the end of the game.

Apex Legends R-99 damage statistics
The R-99 remains a popular choice for indoor games.
As noted, the R-99 can do serious damage if you get too close to an enemy player. If you managed to master the retreat, you will destroy an enemy’s health in no time.
If you are lucky enough to get a weapon in the early part of the game, where enemies don’t have a ton of armor, it will take between six and eight clean shots to deal 100 damage to an unarmored opponent. The complete damage analysis for the Volt can be found below.

Accessories R-99 Mag
This ultra-fast SMG can launch hundreds of Light Rounds with very little downtime, as long as you have the ammo. To avoid having to constantly reload in the middle of the shooting, you should prioritize updating the R-99’s Mag.

Optical accessories R-99
The R-99 is incredibly deadly when equipped with digital threat optics.

Load accessories and use optics
The R-99’s recoil becomes much easier to handle with a Barrel Stabilizer.
Now, if you are dedicated to improving the Apex, mastering the R-99’s retreat can take time in the firing range. However, if luck is on your side, you better load up on accessories – specifically the Barrel Stabilizer, Extended Light Mag and a view of your choice.
Unlike some other weapons, you don’t slow down when aiming. In fact, when you aim with the R-99, it is still very fast on the ground. This means that you advertise without becoming an easy target.
Never use the R-99 in long range
The 30-30 Repeater is a good choice for long-range appointments.
Killing hungry Apex players will shoot with guns even when they shouldn’t. You can deal a small amount of damage to an enemy, but it is likely that you will never be able to kill it, as enemies will simply run away.
The R-99 has only a 39 meter head shot multiplier and beyond. This means that you are better off using your secondary weapon in range or trying to get closer to your enemy.

You can see the R-99’s recoil pattern above. After swinging back and forth for the first 5-6 strokes, he flies up and slightly to the right. To mitigate this, simply pull down and turn slightly to the left.
