The video captured the moment when a heroic grandmother chased a would-be thief after he tried to steal her purse from an outdoor table where the woman was dining.

The woman was reportedly doing her own business when the suspect approached his desk, grabbed his bag, and fled the scene on foot.

He didn’t go far.

What are the details?

According to Australia’s Seven News, the incident occurred outside the Pimpama Tavern on Australia’s Gold Coast on January 19.

Surveillance images captured the moment when the woman takes off her shoes, chases the alleged thief and throws him on the floor after he grabs his bag from the table and runs away.

As the fight spreads from the sidewalk to the road, the woman can be seen putting the man – later identified as being from the Upper Coomera – in what appears to be an armbar before taking his bag back and leaving the scene .

The suspect then gets into a white truck and leaves the scene.

The woman, who was celebrating her birthday, had broken ribs, cuts and bruises as a result of the fight.

Begins at age 60, he reported that the woman is the grandmother of at least 10 grandchildren.

Queensland police were able to locate the suspect and arrest him on charges of theft.

The Daily Telegraph reported on Thursday that the suspect was identified as Troy Charles Bennett.

Bennett appeared in court on Wednesday, where he reportedly “hid in the courtroom’s toilets” for more than an hour before he emerged wearing a coronavirus mask and sunglasses.

“He tried to hide behind two prosecutors when they left the courtroom, despite his efforts to stay away from the cameras,” the vehicle noted. “Bennett then ran to the Mal Burke car park, across the street from the courthouse.”
