The Silence of the Lambs now has a direct sequence – in the form of a TV show. The next CBS series Clarice hopes to be an immediate follow-up to Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-winning thriller, which means it will have absolutely nothing to do with Hannibal Lecter. As you may remember, Hannibal escapes at the end of Silence, and spends years hidden. Furthermore, the rights to Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lecter books are a mess, which means that the people behind Clarice I can’t even mention Lecter. Instead, the series will focus on how agent Clarice Starling (played by Rebecca Breeds) talks about his career as a police officer after taking down the serial killer Buffalo Bill. see the Clarice trailer below.

I’ll be the first to admit when I’m wrong. When Bryan Fuller cannibal The TV series was announced for the first time, I confess that my instinctive reaction was: “It looks stupid!” A TV prequel for Red Dragon and Silence of the innocents it seemed uninspired. And then the show came and beat me up because the Fuller series wasn’t really the kind of prequel I had in mind. Instead, he was creative and inventive, and while he paid tribute to Thomas Harris’ work and the films that inspired him, he was also not afraid to try new and wild things. The end result was one of my favorite TV shows of all time.
With all this in mind, I think I should at least try to be more open to Clarice, the new CBS program that tries to be a direct continuation of Jonathan Demme Silence of the innocents movie. The show takes place in 1993 and follows Clarice Starling “as she returns to the field in search of serial killers and sexual predators as she navigates the high-risk political world of Washington, DC Her complex psychological makeup that comes from a challenging childhood enables her to start to find your voice while working in a man’s world, as well as escape the family secrets that have haunted you throughout your life. “
Hannibal Lecter will not make an appearance, nor will he be mentioned. I have no idea how they are going to get around this, since Hannibal is such an important piece of Clarice’s story. But hey, I’ll let the showrunners find out. The series comes from creators Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet, and in addition to leading the Rebecca races, the cast includes Lucca De Oliveira, Devyn A. Tyler, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Michael Cudlitzand Marnee Carpenter.
I wish I could say that this trailer has somewhat diminished my skepticism, but I can’t. The footage here looks rather bland – a far cry from the masterful work of Jonathan Demme and cannibalvisually stunning vibe. Everything seems pretty bland and, well, procedural. However, in previous interviews, it was stated Clarice it is not a procedural series about Clarice hunting a serial killer. Kurtzman told EW that, instead, the series deals with “an entity that represents something we deal with in our lives all the time”, adding: it is a more expanded, nuanced, complicated and current version of a serial killer ” .
Clarice debut in February 11.
