Some celebrities are much more identifiable at the parent level than others – stars who are not afraid to show that parenting is difficult for them, too. Chrissy Teigen never shied away from keeping it real. She has been brutally honest, extremely vulnerable and open about what it’s like to raise children in her world. She talked about the immeasurable pain of losing her child to the world in an act that helped her progress in the conversation about miscarriage and pregnancy loss.
But, needless to say, she is also incredibly rich. Because of this, not every story she shares about her world will be identifiable, even if the whole story is very funny. And if she didn’t notice it before – she does it now. After she told an equally hilarious and equally insensitive story on Twitter, fans were divided on how to respond – so they responded, in turn, divided.
On February 3, 2021, she asked her followers a question and followed up with a story.
“What is the most expensive thing you ate and thought it sucked?” Chrissy asked before going into her answer to the question.
“John and I were at a restaurant once and the waiter recommended a good Cabernet,” she wrote. “We received the bill and it was 13,000 dollars. HOW DO I RECOMMEND THIS WINE CASUALLY. we didn’t even finish and it was clean !!! “
It is the following: it is a funny, ridiculous, insensitive and deeply indisputable story. It’s a crazy expensive bottle of wine for a waiter to recommend without mentioning the price. It’s a HUGE price and especially problematic because apparently because it wasn’t even that good – they didn’t finish the bottle!

This is basically what Chrissy was trying to say. Still, his tweet caused his followers to give one of two reactions: they shared a funny anecdote in answering their initial question or attacked Chrissy for not identifying with sarcasm, which is sometimes the cost of being honest on Twitter.
“I was once forced to get into an ambulance and I’m still paying the bill for the less than 10-minute trip to the hospital 4 years later, so I understand where you’re coming from,” replied one person, sarcastically.

And while criticism was widespread, some people understood the funny spirit of Teigen’s story and responded with their own upsell moments – or how to avoid being fooled by a $ 13,000 bottle of wine again.

Before the pandemic, I worked as a food server at an airport where prices were obviously high. I was always amused by the amount of customers who were shocked to see the $ 100 bill for their drinks. Look at a menu. Ask for prices. It is tacky as a server to say the prices of things. Suppose there is an increase in sales.

So ok. This tweet is anything but identifiable, but is it funny? Yes. Imagine doing it yourself! And yes, it is definitely insensitive, especially while so many are struggling. But, in generous reading, the purpose of the story seems to be more about the spirit of selling something, rather than the price of what you are selling. Hopefully, some fans will give her a little grace and remember it.
