The drama takes place in the Golden Age of Hollywood, during the transition from the silent film industry to silent films.

The relatively unknown Mexican actor Diego Calva got a role that changed his career and will now star alongside Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt in Babylon, the drama set in the Golden Age of Hollywood that Damien Chazelle is directing for Paramount.

Rising actors Jovan Adepo and Li Jun Li will also be on the roster as part of the cast when the cameras roll this summer in Los Angeles.

Paramount defined Babylon for a limited launch on December 25, 2022 before a wide opening on January 6, 2023.

The story takes place in the late 1920s, during the transition of the film industry from silent films to spoken films, and speaks of the rise and fall of various characters. “Great Gatsby on steroids ”is how a source described the story.

The script, written by Chazelle, originally featured historical characters – Robbie’s part was originally Clara Bow, the precocious sex symbol and box-office star who was Hollywood’s first “girl” but has been reworked to be more fictional in nature. Robbie and Pitt are playing stars, finding varying degrees of success with the transition.

In a role described as “critical,” Calva plays a Mexican who is rising through the ranks of Hollywood, starting as an assistant.

Bald is being hailed as a discovery because of his appearance from nowhere. It is said that the almost 30-year-old has already hit two established names and has only a few credits, Mexican and other South American productions, in his name, although he recently landed a role in Netflix’s new season. Narcos: Mexico.

Sources say Robbie did several chemistry readings with Calva and when he became the choice, Chazelle guided him to hone his skills.

During the process, the actor was chosen by the WME for representation. Calva is also represented by Combot and attorney Matt Wallerstein.

Olivia Hamilton, Matt Plouffe and Marc Platt are producing the drama, while Tobey Maguire, Helen Estabrook and Adam Siegel will be executive producers.
