The Patriots’ Bill Belichick phone breaking incident during the primetime game with Buffalo goes viral

Moving away from his usual stoic behavior, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick showed his dissatisfaction with his team’s performance during the 38-9 loss to rival Buffalo Bills of AFC East on Monday Night Football.

In the first play of the second half, Bills’ tight end, Dawson Knox, made a beautiful side grab that was challenged by Belichick. The problem was not undone, which led the future Hall of Fame coach to break the phone in frustration.

Belichick was on the sideline, talking to someone on his team who may have advised him to challenge the play, and this led him to attack the phone.

The ESPN broadcast caught Belichick in action and, of course, went viral.

There have been some interesting reactions from people across Twitter.

It was not the first time that Belichick destroyed a piece of technology. In 2016, he launched a Microsoft tablet, which was used by coaches to review plays.

During the post-game press conference on Monday night, a reporter asked Belichick about the challenge.

“Obviously he did the catch. It was a good catch,” said Belichick. “I mean, it was a good decision. It was a good footprint. And the challenge was obviously not successful, as it shouldn’t have been.”

The Patriots, who are in their first year without future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady, will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

In Sunday’s final game of the season, Belichick will face his former employer, the New York Jets – the team he left in the dust to become the New England coach. The Jets are losing 2-13 this season, but have won two consecutive games and almost defeated the Pats on November 9 in New Jersey.
