The New York Post, which has long been one of President Donald Trump’s biggest supporters, is asking the president to accept his election defeat and focus on helping Republicans maintain control of the Senate.
In an editorial published late on Sunday, the editorial board wrote that Trump’s continued focus on reversing election results amounts to an “anti-democratic coup” and that it was “time to end this gloomy charade”.
Although the editorial board said that Trump “had every right” to challenge the election results, once no widespread fraud was discovered, it is time to move on.

“We understand, Mr. President, that you are angry that you lost. But continuing on this road is ruinous,” wrote the editorial board. “We offer this as a newspaper that endorsed it, that supported it: if you want to consolidate your influence, even set the stage for a future return, you must channel your fury into something more productive.”
The editorial board said the president should use his “considerable charm and influence” to help Republicans win both runoff contests in Georgia, which will decide which party controls the United States Senate.
“If Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win, they will prevent Biden from turning back what you have achieved. A Republican Senate can pressure Biden against returning to the old and failed Iran deal, it can prevent him from opening our southern border, it will prevent him to package the court, “wrote the editorial board.
“Protecting the Senate means protecting your legacy,” added the council.
The editorial board concluded its letter to Trump with a warning: “If you insist on spending your last days in office threatening to burn everything, this is how you will be remembered. Not as a revolutionary, but as the anarchist holding the match.”
