One of President Trump’s favorite newspapers is urging him to “end this black charade” and admit defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
In a hard-hitting front-page editorial published on Monday, the New York Post accused Trump of “rooting for an anti-democratic coup” in his calls for Republicans in Congress to override the results on January 6, when Congress meets to certify the vote of the Electoral College confirming Joe Vitória de Biden.
Since the November 3 election, the Trump campaign and its legal team have set up dozens of lawsuits filled with unsubstantiated and unsubstantiated allegations of electoral fraud. They lost almost everyone.
“You had every right to investigate the election,” said the Post. “But let’s be clear: these efforts have found nothing.”
The newspaper called Sidney Powell, one of the lawyers who promoted wild and false conspiracy theories alleging massive electoral fraud, a “madman”. This further criticized Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, who launched the idea of declaring martial law to repeat the election in four states that the president lost, as a traitor and “shameful”.
“We understand, Mr. President, that you are angry that you lost,” said the editorial. “But continuing on this road is ruinous. We offer this as a newspaper that endorsed it, that supported it: if you want to consolidate your influence, even prepare the ground for a future return, you must channel your fury towards something more productive ”.
The Post’s editorial is impressive. Not only did the conservative tabloid endorse Trump’s reelection offer, but Trump often praised the Post in the final days of the campaign for its reporting on Hunter Biden. Trump has also had an extensive relationship with the Post since his days as a New York real estate developer and tabloid figure. “Very proud of @nypost, my old ‘city paper’,” Trump tweeted in October.
The editorial asked Trump to focus on the Jan. 5 elections in Georgia, which will determine which party controls the U.S. Senate. Democrats Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock are running against GOP Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.
As it stands, Republicans have 50 seats in the Senate, while Democrats control 48. If Warnock and Ossoff win, Democrats will take control of the chamber in January because Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be able to cast any decisive vote.
“If Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win, they will prevent Biden from reversing what you have achieved,” said the Post. “A Republican Senate can pressure Biden against returning to the old and failed deal with Iran, it can stop him from opening our southern border, he can stop filling the Supreme Court.
“… Consider this. You came out of nowhere to win the presidency,” continued the newspaper. “You faced the elites and the media that have long lost contact with the working class. You have changed politics, something few in American history you can tell. If Georgia falls, everything will be threatened.
“… Democrats will try to dismiss it as an aberration of a mandate and, frankly, you are helping them to do that. King Lear of Mar-a-Lago, shouting about the corruption of the world. Protecting the Senate means protecting your legacy, ”added the Post. “If you insist on spending your last days at the office threatening to burn everything, this is how you will be remembered. Not as a revolutionary, but as the anarchist holding the match. “
