The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword coming to Nintendo Switch

Nintendo is bringing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Link’s flying adventure in 2011 on the Wii, for the Switch later this year. The switch port Sword to Heaven will offer a major visual upgrade over the Wii version and include a new control scheme that uses the Joy-Con controllers on the Switch. The game will be available on July 16 and is already in pre-order on Nintendo eShop. Players will be able to grab Sword to HeavenJoy-Con themed controllers too.

The remake will update its visuals and optimize the game for the Nintendo Switch – receiving treatment similar to Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Eiji Aonuma announced through Nintendo Direct that players can play while waiting for the Breath of the Wild sequel.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword it was generally well received by critics of the time. Critics praised the game’s story and gameplay, while others denounced it for its sometimes meticulous movement controls and strict adherence to The Legend of Zelda series formula. Sword to Heaven was re-released via the Wii U Virtual Console in 2016, and the game influenced the design of its successor, Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch and Wii U, according to Aonuma.

Nintendo announced the relaunch of Sword to Heaven in anticipation of the 35th anniversary of the Zelda franchise in February. The original Legend of Zelda was released on the Nintendo Famicom in 1986. Since then, the franchise has grown to become one of Nintendo’s most loved franchises of all time.
