The leaked photos and renderings of the AirPods 3 show a new design, lack of silicone tips

UPDATE: More live footage of Apple’s third generation AirPods was shared online. The updated story continues below.

It’s been two years since Apple launched the current version of the AirPods, so it’s time for the brand to launch a third generation. Leaked photos previously revealed what they might look like and the newly published images of AirPods 3 now provide an even clearer appearance.

This could be the final design of Apple’s AirPods 3

Live photos shared by DuanRui, practical images published by 52Audio, and renderings obtained by GizmoChina from an unnamed Apple vendor, all corroborate previous leaks and rumors when describing an updated design, believed to be nearing the end, which is heavily inspired by the AirPods Pro.

Future buyers of AirPods 3 can expect shorter rods and a more compact charging case. These must be some of the the best true wireless headsets on the market, but to keep costs low and differentiate them from the AirPods Pro, there are some important differences.

Probably the most important is related to the tips of the ears. While AirPods Pro feature replaceable silicone buttons, these third generation AirPods use a universal plastic interior design, much like that found in current generation AirPods, which cannot be changed or exchanged.

Inside, Apple must include an updated audio chip. A larger battery that would allow for a longer service life would also be welcome, although it is far from guaranteed at this stage.

One thing that seems certain, however, is the lack of active noise cancellation. The feature has never been used on basic AirPods and third generation AirPods will be no different, with Apple reserving them for AirPods Pro.

Apple’s third generation AirPods are “ready” for launch. There are rumors that the company had has scheduled an event for March 23, so it could be the day that Apple announces them.
