No matter where you are in the world right now, it is clear that the pandemic has forced us to be creative. As such, Indian photographer Kunaal Kelkar was scheduled to fly to Italy and drive the Lamborghini Urus, but Covid obviously had other plans. To get around the problem, the Italian automaker sent him a 1:18 scale model and asked him to see what he could do.
“As we missed the opportunity to travel to Italy because of the blockade, we wanted to show Urus on the Amalfi Coast and how Urus managed to access a scenic coastal area where there are no roads,” said Kelkar.

After much deliberation, his partner suggested using his pool as a substitute for the Italian coastline. With some experienced camera tricks – submerging the camera underwater and scaling the model in some rocks – he got a very convincing shot. However, some delicate work in photoshop turned the fun exercise into a legitimately usable brochure photograph.
After the first photo, Kelkar wanted to create another scene of the Italian SUV basking on the beach. Fortunately, this example was much less laborious and did not require him to submerge his camera in water – for the previous photo, he actually used the clear plastic protector for the model to safely submerge his camera in water without destroying it.
After seeing this fake book display until you do that, we’d love to see a post-pandemic recreation of all those photos with the real car; we just hope it doesn’t happen at the cost of accidentally submerging several Lamborghini SUVs in the sea.
