Google has launched a new feature for Meet that can ensure that your video and audio are working properly before entering a meeting. Although you can now check your environment to see if there is anything you don’t want the other party to see under “Ready to enter?” video viewing window, Meet’s new “green room” feature can do more than that. Now, when entering a meeting, you can click the “Check your audio and video” button in the preview window to confirm that your peripheral devices and the network are working correctly before joining.
The tech giant says it can help you spot problems like poor sound quality and loud background noise, muted microphones and a missing speaker or headphone connection. If the feature detects a problem, Meet will display a warning with troubleshooting tips for common problems, for example, how to allow your browser to access your microphone or camera. You can also choose the microphone, speaker and camera you want to use – if you have external devices connected – inside the green room. The feature has already started to be deployed for Google Workspace and G Suite users and will be available to everyone in the next 15 days.
