I use the Google Home app frequently to control my lights and several other smart home devices, but I must admit that I completely forgot about the second tab in the bottom navigation of the app. It is a feed that alerts you to certain events in your home, such as adding or removing devices or Wi-Fi status updates. Google has just launched a new settings menu, allowing you to customize the types of notifications in this feed.

For me, there are two types of events for which I can turn off alerts. In the ‘Entire home’ section, there are toggles for ‘Network status’ and ‘Wi-Fi activity’, both enabled by default. According to the screenshots of 9to5Google, the routines would also appear here if I had any enabled.

The other section visible to me is ‘Cameras’ with switches for ‘People’ or ‘Motion’ events turned off for my Nest Hub Max – to be clear, this would not completely turn off these events, it would just prevent them from showing up in my food house. I can see how it can cause confusion.

By the way, “Cookie” is what I call my Hub Max.

In short, this is a very innocuous menu that is unlikely to make many users enthusiastic. If someone is using the homepage feed, this can be very useful. This settings section is being launched now, although it is unclear whether it is part of Google Home version 2.35.1.6 or with a separate server-side push. Anyway, having the latest version will probably help – you can download it from APK Mirror if it still doesn’t reach you.
