The future future of Arrow Green Arrow & the Canaries spinoff officially eliminated on the CW

It had been a long time since the fans had heard anything about the proposed future set Arrow spinoff series Green Arrow and Canaries – and now we know why. The network decided not to go ahead with the series, which would follow Oliver and Felicity’s daughter, Mia, in a future version of Star City, accompanied by some other heroes of today.

The report comes from TV Line, which notes that the spinoff is no longer in the running to enter the series. The show would have starred Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, reprising her Arrow functions a few decades before the rest of the Arrowverse in 2040. No explanation was given as to why the project was terminated, although the network admits it does not have many super shows already underway.

A backdoor pilot for the proposed spinoff aired a year ago, marking a high season in the Arrowfinal season of (not including the Crisis in the Infinite Lands crossover, of course). But this was apparently not enough to motivate the network to keep the corner farthest from the Arrowverse for longer. But there is a small silver lining for fans wondering how the back door pilot’s obstacles could have worked. Producer Marc Guggenheim had previously said he would work to answer these outstanding questions in other ways (that is, through time travel). Legends of Tomorrow, or even a comic strip tied to end the story).

In case you’re a little rusty (it’s been a year since the episode aired), the back door pilot ended up with Mia’s brother William, being kidnapped by a dark figure – and after the adult William played a key role in Arrowfinal season – fans are certainly still curious about their future fate.

Although fans will certainly be upset Green Arrow and Canaries is not advancing, there are still many Arrowverse content on the way. The Flash Returns, Supergirl, Black Lightning, Superman and Lois and Legends of Tomorrow everything will be back in the coming months.
