The developer of Sinking City asks users not to buy their game on Steam

Frogwares says it did not create the version of the Lovecraftian detective game currently available on Steam

Sinking City developer Frogwares said the version of his game currently on Steam was not made by Frogwares.

On a tweet posted today and shared on the game’s news feed on Steam, Frogwares is asking users not to buy the game.

“Frogwares did not create the version of [The Sinking City] which is on sale today in [Steam]. We do not recommend purchasing this version. More news soon, “says the statement.

The studio has not published any additional updates at the time of this writing. We contacted the developer and publisher, Nacon, for comment.

The Sinking City was taken off the shelves by Frogwares in the midst of a legal dispute between the studio and Nacon in August 2020, after alleging that Nacon – formerly Big Ben Interactive – violated several provisions of the game’s licensing agreement and, allegedly, owed Frogwares for € 1 million in payments.

It was returned to digital platforms last month, after a decision by the Paris Court of Appeals that Frogwares had “closed” [its] contract in a ‘manifestly illegal’ manner. “

In a statement last week that coincided with the release of The Sinking City on PlayStation 5, Frogwares stated that it was the developer and editor of the PS5 version, but the PS4 version had a separate editor and different game IDs due to “a continuous current legal and technical situation “, preventing a platform update for PS4 owners.

As is, The Sinking City is currently available for sale on PlayStation Store, Xbox store, Nintendo eShop and several PC stores, including Steam.
