The Birmingham skyline has a special participation in the opening monologue of ‘SNL’

A great photograph of the Birmingham skyline was featured during Dan Levy’s opening monologue on Saturday Night Live Saturday.

Levy led the audience on a comic tour behind the scenes of the iconic “SNL” set in New York, joking about preparations for COVID-19 and interacting with cast members like Kenan Thompson.

Towards the end of the monologue, Levy’s father, actor Eugene Levy, “surprises” his son, saying that he had come from Los Angeles for the recording. But old Levy, continuing the joke of the monologue, expresses dismay at having to be kept in an “isolation box” as a coronavirus security concern.

The scene unfolds in front of a sizable photograph of the Birmingham skyline that appears to have been used in a previous episode of NBC’s sketch program.

Printed slightly along the right side of the photograph are the words “Alabama Advertisements (Doug Jones), broadcast date 12/9/17”. No reference is made to the image and it is not clear why it was at the bottom of the photo.

Levy, the star of the Canadian series “Schitt’s Creek”, performed “SNL” for the first time on Saturday night. Singer Phoebe Bridgers was the musical guest.
