The Houston Texans officially hired new general manager Nick Caserio on Thursday.
“The Houston Texans are an organization committed to excellence. Since the beginning of our research, we have been steadfast in identifying a general manager who embodies what it means to be a Houston Texan, and is Nick Caserio,” President and CEO of Texans Official Cal McNair said in a statement. “Nick is an incredibly hardworking, disciplined worker, a man of integrity and high character. He has enormous experience in building a winning franchise and we have faith that he will continue his success as a Texan. Nick has an incomparable reputation in the league among his colleagues. We couldn’t be more excited to appoint him as our new general manager and welcome his family to Houston. “
The Texans tried to interview Caserio in 2019, but were blocked by the Patriots. This time, Houston arrested his man.
“On behalf of my wife Kathleen and our entire family, I am very honored and honored to have this opportunity to be the general manager of the Houston Texans,” said Caserio in a statement. “We would like to thank Janice, Cal and Hannah McNair for believing in us that we can build something special that embraces the achievements of the past and accepts the challenges that lie ahead in our desire to be the best. This moment would not be possible without the support and guidance of those who invested in me personally and professionally. We are forever grateful to the Kraft family, Bill Belichick, as well as to the entire New England Patriots organization that has blessed our family in ways that we can never repay. The goal now is to serve the Texas organization and the Houston community, bringing together a team that we can all be proud of on and off the field. “
With quarterback Deshaun Watson under contract, the biggest foundation for Houston to build “something special” is already in place.
Caserio spent 20 seasons in New England, most of the time as Bill Belichick’s right-hand man. Caserio, 45, meets ex-patriots Jack Easterby in Houston.
Caserio’s first big decision with his new club will be to hire a new coach to replace Bill O’Brien, who was fired four games in the 2020 season.
