The Texans’ bizarre offseason took another strange turn, with the team interviewing quarterback Josh McCown, who was on his active roster at the end of the season.

The Texans announced the interview with McCown today.

McCown has done some high school training, but to say he doesn’t have the typical qualifications for an NFL coach would be an understatement. He wasn’t even a quality control coach in the NFL or college football.

If McCown were to be hired, it is believed that he would be the first player to move directly from active player to NFL coach since Norm Van Brocklin, who was an Eagles defender in 1960 and a Vikings coach in 1961.

The fact that the Texans even considered McCown indicates that Jack Easterby is playing another strange power game on the front lines or that McCown has developed a close bond with quarterback Deshaun Watson, and the Texans think that hiring McCown would placate Watson, who is so unhappy with the team has fueled widespread speculation that he will resist and demand an exchange.

The Texans also announced that they had interviewed Jim Caldwell for his position as head coach.
