Texans continue with a series of stupid decisions with Josh McCown as head coach

With quarterback Deshaun Watson specifically asking Texans to interview high-profile candidates like Robert Saleh and Eric Bieniemy, Texans, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, are apparently considering naming * check notes * as Josh McCown’s head coach.

Strangely, Texans are not one of the nine teams McCown played for in his mediocre career, but somehow long in the NFL.

I’m sure it will all end very, very well.

Personally, there are many, many layers where I could go with my general disgust at how Texans are handling this whole situation. I’ll start with the fact that even Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network is already starting to do his best to turn this admittedly “crazy” idea for Texan fans into a “damn, it’s so crazy it can work” situation.

Maybe choosing a coach who, in fact, you know, is a coach, is the best way to do it while your team is clearly going through a period of great transformation. Call it reconstruction, call it retrofit, call it what you want – Texans face a steep climb back to being a rival cast thanks in large part to Bill O’Brien’s ineptitude.

Again, please try to tell me that there is no running problem on the main NFL training circuit, as a QB assistant with no training experience is being considered the offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy who worked under one of the – if not the best NFL coach, Andy Reid won a Super Bowl in that role and is a game away from returning to the Big Game.

If Texans want to appoint a newspaper quarterback to be the head coach of their franchise, they should just trade what I can almost certainly call Deshaun Watson extremely angry for Miami in exchange for Ryan Fitzpatrick, and then Fitz can take the role of the player / coach. They would save money by not having to pay for a bus! Win-win!

I’m not sure how the hell they plan to deliver this to Deshaun Watson, but I personally can’t wait to find out.
