Tesla steering stick OK, says UK government

This is good to go, according to the UK government.

Tesla

Tesla wild yoke steering wheel it is legal for UK roads after the Department of Transportation told the Sunday Times that its regulations do not “stipulate any shape or size of the steering wheel”. The short and kind answer seems to pave the way for the latest Tesla Model S and Model X joystick updates to reach local UK roads

Auto Express reported the newspaper report and added that UK regulations allow any type of steering equipment, provided it meets the Department of Transportation’s requirements for excessive movement of the steering equipment in question. The department did not immediately return the Roadshow’s request for comment. But his direct response to the Sunday Times comes in stark contrast to the U.S. government, which told the Roadshow last week that wants to chat with Tesla on the steering wheel of the yoke.

The National Road Traffic Safety Administration told the Roadshow that “it is not possible to determine whether the steering wheel meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards”. This is not to say that the yoke does not meet standards, but regulators have yet to make that decision. NHTSA did not immediately return a follow-up request for comments on whether the talks have already taken place.

We are not regulators, but editor-in-chief Tim Stevens has already talked about why the yoke is not a lovely retro setback, but maybe a security issue – as much as we all want to live our KITT fantasies.
