Tesla driving alone hits Michigan state police car on highway

EATON COUNTY, MI – A Tesla on autopilot struck a Michigan State Police car on Wednesday morning, officials confirmed.

The MSP car was parked with emergency lights on while investigating a deer accident at 1:12 am on March 17 at I-96 near Waverly Road in Eaton County, when Tesla hit him, policeman said.

Tesla was on autopilot and was unable to move, hitting the patrol car, police said.

The autopilot function means that the car can “automatically drive, accelerate and brake within its range”, according to the Tesla website. It does not make the vehicle autonomous and requires supervision, as per the website.
