Heidi Cruz is “upset” that texts showing her inviting friends from the neighborhood on the family’s deaf tour to Cancún were leaked to the press, according to Senator Ted Cruz, who classified those responsible as “idiots”.
Texas GOPer talked about his public relations nightmare of a trip to Mexico on the podcast “Ruthless”, which aired on Tuesday.
“I will say that Heidi is very upset about this,” Cruz said of the group’s text in which his better half asked friends to flee to Cancún with them in the middle of “FROZEN” storms.
Cruz noted that he has a mix of Republican and Democratic neighbors in his exclusive Houston River Oaks neighborhood – and said the leak was a sign of “how ridiculously politicized and disagreeable” people can be.
“Here’s a suggestion: just don’t be a donkey,” he continued. “Like, you know, treating each other like human beings have some degree, a minimum of respect.”
Cruz has been doing damage control after he was caught flying to Cancun with his wife and two daughters on Wednesday, days after Texas was hit by a once-in-a-lifetime winter storm.
The senator was forced to shorten the trip, flying home the next day, and issue an apology.
Cruz was under intense scrutiny about the optics of the miniforms – and for leaving the family dog, Snowflake, alone at home, without power or heating.
“Apparently, I fed Snowflake to the wolves,” said Cruz, dismissing the reaction. “He was at home with a dog sitter. The heat was kind of on. The whole thing is a little absurd. “
He also criticized the media for posting photos of Heidi in a bikini on the beach.
“I’m going to tell you THAT she’s upset,” he teased.
At the beginning of his podcast interview, Cruz riffed the long-running joke that he is the infamous Zodiac Killer, who terrified the Golden State decades ago.
“Look, I haven’t had that much negative press coverage since Northern California in the 1960s,” he said.
