Super Bowl Champion Carlton Davis is in bad shape for tweeting a VERY offensive Asian slander – although Davis claims he didn’t know the “black” story behind the word.
“I have to stop leaving the g *** s in Miami,” posted the Tampa Bay Bucs cornerback on Sunday night in a deleted tweet.
Obviously, the tweet went viral and people couldn’t believe that an NFL player would throw such an offensive word around so casually.
Davis initially offered an explanation – and really had the courage to attack the media for criticizing him in the first place.
The 24-year-old posted a screenshot of the definition of the word in the Urban Dictionary (which, conveniently, was not even the main definition).
“A term commonly [sic] used in South Florida to describe a person who is lame. Synonym for Lame, wack, Fool or Stupid. “
Davis added: “I would never offend any group of people. You, reporters, can look for another story to blow up. The term was aimed at a producer who claimed to ‘direct Miami’. With that said, I will remove that word from my vocabulary, explaining the difficult times that our Asian family is facing. “
A few minutes later, Davis was changing his tone in another statement.
“I used a term that I always come from means ‘lame’, but I didn’t realize that it has a much more dark and negative connotation. I learned a valuable lesson and I want to apologize to anyone who was offended by seeing that word because we need to focus on help each other during these difficult times. “
For your information, the g-word is an incredibly offensive anti-Asian slander that has existed for decades. It was widely used by American soldiers against Koreans and Vietnamese during military conflicts.
Ans, since Davis is using definitions … how about this one Merriam-Webster.com:
“offensive – used as an insulting and disdainful term for a non-white, a non-American and especially an Asian.”
No word on whether the NFL plans to take action.
Davis was a 2nd round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and had a very solid 2020 season … recording 68 tackles and 4 interceptions during the Bucs’ championship.
