Sygic adds support for Android Auto in the latest beta

Earlier this year, Google finally opened Android Auto for third-party browsing applications. Now, the first of these applications is finally available. Sygic just added support for Android Auto and you can download it today.

Update 4/5: Along with Google opening the Play Store for Android Auto apps today, Sygic made its formal debut. Now, all users can download the Sygic app to their phones and use it on Android Auto, without the need for beta access.

One of the most anticipated events for drivers using Android phones is here. Sygic GPS Navigation is now available on Android Auto as one of the first navigation apps, offering the benefit of offline maps. Sygic is currently used by more than 200 million users worldwide.

Sygic GPS Navigation on Android Auto brings a whole new experience and comfort level. Mirroring the navigation application on your car’s screen allows for safer use of navigation and means that there are no more devices on the windshield and there is no need to look down or handle the phone while driving.

Our original coverage follows:

Available now on the Play Store, Sygic added support for Android Auto in a beta version of the app. With this update, Sygic becomes the first third-party application to support the Google platform, since for a long time, only Google Maps and Waze have been available to users.

Sygic is an extremely popular mapping service, with more than 50 million downloads on the Google Play Store alone. The service offers GPS-based navigation globally, of course, but it also supports user reports for traffic cameras and even some AR features in parts of Europe. Sygic also supports additional offline features that Google Maps does not.

A Reddit user managed to get the Android Auto support recently added to the app to work on his vehicle by sharing photos of the interface in a post. Seen below, the Sygic UI on Android Auto is not much different from that of Google Maps, and the app even supports the bottom bar to show directions while a user is in a media application.

The Sygic beta program is open to anyone on the Play Store, which means that the navigation service is ready and running on Android Auto with just a few taps and an update away! Hopefully, this functionality will change to the stable range sooner or later.
