Surprise! This LG phone was among the most activated devices in the US last month

There are some similarities between the Christmas day list and the whole month list. O The iPhone 11 was at the top of the two lists. In December, it represented 5.7% of all activated handsets, followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The latter accounted for 5.3% of smartphones activated in the US last month. With market share of 3.5% each, tie for third place among the iPhone 12 and the iPhone XR. O The iPhone 12 Pro was the fifth most activated connected device in the states, with 2.5% of activations in December. This was followed by iPhone SE (2.2%), iPhone 11 Pro Max (2%), LG Stylo 6 (1.9%), iPhone 8 Plus (1.7%) and the Samsung Galaxy A11 (1.6%).

Flurry pointed out something interesting. The iPhone 12 mini is the only one of the four 2020 iPhone models that is not on the list. The research company blames the iPhone SE (2020), which says it cannibalized the iPhone 12 mini. The latter features a 5.4-inch screen and costs $ 699 or more. The iPhone SE (2020) is priced at $ 399, which gives it a good price advantage and an even smaller 4.7-inch screen.

In December, Apple was the largest smartphone maker in the United States, with the iPhone accounting for 46% of phone activations. Samsung was next with 27%, followed by LG and its 9% share. The “others” category combined 17% of December activations.

Speaking in December, year-on-year activations fell by 20%. Flurry says: “Overall, smartphone activations in December 2020 fell 20% compared to December 2019. We believe that the underlying driver is COVID-19, which has increased unemployment, decreased consumer spending and drove greater part of online sales transactions. Limitations on family reunions may also have hampered the gift offering. Although overall smartphone adoption has declined, a significant number of devices have still been adopted.

What will the new year bring? Flurry will let us know when it releases January activation numbers in a few weeks.
