The Pittsburgh Steelers will be able to keep at least one of their free agents unrestricted this off-season, before the league’s new year begins on March 17.
According to Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, the Steelers are re-signing cornerback Cameron Sutton with a two-year deal for $ 9 million.

Sutton, the Steelers’ third round selection in Tennessee’s 2017 NFL Draft, played extensively in 2020. He recorded 548 snapshots of the regular season and 186 more on special teams. He played outside and inside throughout the regular season and even started six games and the only playoff game the team had.
In total, during the regular season, Sutton recorded 29 tackles in defense. He also had a loss tackle, a sack, an interception, eight defended passes, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery to accompany a special team tackle. In the Steelers’ playoff loss to the Browns, Sutton started and played all 67 defensive snaps and 19 more on special teams. He recorded two tackles in total and a pass saved in that playoff contest as well.
Sutton has shown that he can be a decisive player in the NFL in 2020 and play anywhere on the field in defense of the Steelers.
Sutton’s retention in this off-season will help the Steelers somehow absorb the loss of cornerback Mike Hilton, who is expected to sign another contract in the coming days as an unrestricted free agent.

The Steelers bring back Cameron Sutton, 1 of 5 DBs to line up at least 10% of the grooves in the corner of the slot, outer corner, deep safety and safety of the box.
Sutton was successful in coverage regardless of alignment, allowing -12.3 EPA on targets as the closest defender (12th lowest between DB). https://t.co/kknHnefeCA pic.twitter.com/zeZjdtnZiq
