Announced this morning on PlayStation Blog, Greylock Studio’s Cut Steel (formerly known as Impact) is a first person shooter starring a character who cannot reload because he has only one arm.
Her name is Steel, and before the game starts she loses her arm in an accident caused by the megacorporation EdenSys. When the company abandons her after her injury, Steel launches a mission to rescue other prisoners under EdenSys’ heel and take revenge on her dismemberment.
Steel cannot reload with one hand, so she uses her acrobatic skills to steal weapons from her enemies. She slides, runs, runs on the wall and dives over her enemies. To encourage players to rely more on Steel’s agility, designer Matt Larabee caused the enemy fire to automatically fail when she was in the middle of an acrobatics. As long as Steel continues to move, it will be almost bulletproof. That’s great.
Cut SteelThe environments are built in voxels and completely destructible, so later in the game, when Steel places a cannon on its stump, the shit will explode. Who needs a reload when you can explode the ground under your enemies with an arm cannon?
Cut Steel is coming later this year for PS4 and PC.
