Springfield’s City Utilities works to restore power to nearly 6,000 customers after the ice storm

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri (KY3) – The Springfield City Utilities teams are working in the morning to restore power to thousands on their network after an ice storm on New Year’s Day.

As of 11:00 am, Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says that changes in precipitation and temperature conditions often make restoration efforts more difficult.

Alexander says that at the height of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were left without power.

“Overnight, the CU line and tree teams began responding to interruptions as time allowed,” said Alexander in an update on Friday morning. “Most interruptions were created by branches and trees in contact with the power lines. However, there is at least one utility structure that has been damaged. Additional line and tree teams are arriving to assist UC teams. “

Additional line and tree teams have arrived to help and will repair as quickly as possible.

Customers should call 1-888-863-9001 to report a power outage. CLICK HERE to see the interruption map.
