The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control on January 7 approved a proposal by two doctors from Orangeburg, SC, to build a $ 12.5 million ASC, The Times and Democrat reported.
General surgeon Dion Franga, MD, and radiologist Amit Sanghi, DO, received approval to build an ASC with two operating rooms in Orangeburg. The center will offer ophthalmology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, urology, otolaryngology, radiology and general surgery. The pair anticipates the start of activity at ASC in 2021, with the potential for the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.
The Regional Medical Center, based in Orangeburg, plans to appeal the department’s decision to the state Administrative Court.
Regional Medical Center had a competing application to transform its dialysis center into a surgical center. The health system sent out its certificate of need request a week later.
The Regional Medical Center believes that the doctors’ operating room will have an annual effect of $ 7.4 million on its operations.
