SOPHIE, the Scottish electronic producer and DJ who pushed pop into experimental, cutting edge territory, died after an accident at age 34. On January 30, the record labels of the artist Transgressive and Future Classic co-tweeted a statement that said: “Tragically, our beautiful Sophie passed away this morning after a terrible accident. True to her spirituality, she climbed to see the full moon and accidentally slipped and fell. She will always be here with us. ”According to Pitchfork, SOPHIE died around 4 am in Athens, Greece, where he lived.

SOPHIE first appeared in early 2010 with exciting songs like “BIPP”, which landed on the list of Vulture’s Best Songs of the Year in 2013. After following with the single “Lemonade / Hard” in 2014, the debut album by SOPHIE, Products, debuted in 2015. The following year, SOPHIE brought its PC Music sound to Charli XCX’s production Vroom Vroom EP. Second SOPHIE album in 2018 Oil from all non-internal pearls, who presented the single “It’s Okay to Cry”, won a Grammy nomination for Best Electronic Album / Dance. More recently, SOPHIE collaborated with fellow trans experimental artist Arca on “La Chíqui” in 2020. The Saturday morning statement by SOPHIE labels ended with a privacy plea at this devastating time.
