Small phones are probably back thanks to Apple’s iPhone 12 Mini and, as it turned out, one of the most popular is also being revived. According to the trusted @OnLeaks, Sony is bringing the Xperia Compact back to 2021.
In a post on Voice, we get a first look at the still unnamed 2021 revival of the Sony Xperia Compact. The design is practically identical to that of Sony’s latest Android smartphone collection, with only a few minor adjustments. For example, when compared to the Xperia 5, this device has finer bezels and uses a teardrop notch for the selfie camera.
But the design is much smaller here – the real story is the size. According to this leak, a 2021 version of the Sony Xperia Compact will offer a 5.5-inch screen, just 0.1 inch larger than the iPhone 12 Mini. The overall dimensions also reach 140 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm. This is slightly larger than the iPhone across the board, but only a few millimeters in each dimension. Part of that is the frame, which is a little bit thicker at the bottom.
The rest of the phone offers a headset, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, the usual Sony camera button and a dual camera setup on the back, which apparently includes a 13MP primary sensor.
Sony’s latest Xperia Compact was the 2018 Xperia XZ2 Compact, which was roughly the same size. At the moment, it is not clear what specifications this 2021 revival will bring with it or the price.
