The true Sony WF-1000XM4 wireless headphones have emerged and appear to have a completely new design that fits the ear better. According XDA Developers, one leaked Reddit user image Key_Attention4766 suggests that the headphones retain the same aesthetic with gold and matte black accents as before.

A leaked image of the box reveals some interesting specifications. The Sony WF-1000XM4 retains active noise cancellation, which we saw in the famous Sony WF-1000XM3, and will provide six hours of playback on a single charge with 18 extra hours of the case. The box also bears the Hi-Res Audio (Wireless) certification seal, which can be indicative of LDAC support.

This leaked image confirms nothing, but it is safe to assume that the true Sony WF-1000XM4 wireless headphones will include noise cancellation as the Sony WH-1000XM4 did. Other features, such as longer battery life, are common. We hope to see updated Bluetooth firmware – perhaps Bluetooth 5.1 – and also an IP water resistance rating.

With Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 and, of course, Apple AirPods Pro, Sony has many competitors to defend itself in the true wireless space. This story is in progress and we will update it as more information comes to light.
