Sony is adding its new Bravia Core streaming service to the purchase of 2021 Bravia XR TVs. The service is transmitted at up to 80 Mbps and 4K UHD lossless resolution, as long as you have the bandwidth to support it.
To be clear, the streaming service is only available to those with a new TV from Sony’s Bravia XR line, which Sony considers the “world’s first TVs with cognitive intelligence”. You can find out more about it here, but essentially TVs adjust the image a bit in an effort to better reproduce how we humans see the real world.
Either way, Bravia Core will come with hundreds of classic Sony films and new box office hits, from the original Ghostbusters to last year’s Bloodshot starring Vin Diesel. Subscribers will also have access to the largest IMAX Enhanced catalog of any current streaming service. Better yet, the service includes extra scenes, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage so you can delve into your favorite movies.
Sony’s flagship collection of new Bravia XR 4K and 8K TVs will be launched later this year, with pricing details coming this spring. Premium models earn two years of Bravo Core and 10 credits to redeem movies just out of their theaters, while some of the more affordable options include just 12 months and 5 credits. So it looks like recent box office hits will need to be redeemed using credits, while the rest of the catalog is available for free streaming.
It is unclear what will happen to the streaming service after subscriptions expire, but it would be great if Sony decides to add support for PS5. Again, if your plan and internet connection can balance, the image quality would be unmatched in modern streaming. As Hi-Fi points out, 4K at 80 Mbps is a huge leap from the standard 25-30 Mbps supported by Netflix and other streaming services.
