Sony Bravia LED TVs with ‘cognitive intelligence’ start at $ 1,299

Sony’s latest trick for Bravia TVs is something called “cognitive intelligence”, which can enhance parts of an image depending on what’s going on. The first 4K TVs with the technology were state-of-the-art OLED models, but started to cost $ 2,999 and increased from there. Now, Sony has unveiled its first LED models with the XR Cognitive Processor, and they are much more reasonably priced.

The X90J is the top-of-the-line OLED model and is available in 50, 55 and 65 inch sizes for $ 1,299, $ 1,499 and $ 1,799, respectively. They offer the Cognitive Processor XR, although moviegoers are likely to want to turn it off to see the content as the creators intended. They also offer 10-bit (billions) colors and full-matrix LEDs, although Sony has not specified the number of zones.

Naturally, they have HDR support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision and offer HDMI 2.1 ports that allow 10-bit 4K at up to 120 Hz for a superior gaming experience. All devices feature Google TV for Netflix, Disney + and other streaming content, along with Sony’s own Bravia Core streaming service that promises 4K at up to 80 Mbps. This allows for “almost lossless” quality comparable to 4K Blu-ray discs, according to Sony.

Sony also unveiled the budget-oriented X80J line (above), with 43-inch and 50-inch models for $ 749 and $ 849, respectively. These sets do not have the cognitive intelligence, full array dimming and other features, but still offer Google TV and 4K enhancement. All new sets are now on pre-order from B&H Photo Video and other authorized resellers, although Sony did not specify exactly when they would be shipped.
