In just over a decade, Sony has transformed its E-mount lenses from a small collection of glass into one of its greatest strengths, and today Sony is announcing its 60th E-mount lens: the new main lens FE f / 1.2 50mm G Master.

The f / 1.2 G Master boasts a price of $ 2,000 and is definitely a lens aimed at hardcore enthusiasts and professionals, with its f / 1.2 aperture offering the largest aperture available on any Sony E-Mount lens created to date.

Sony claims that 50 mm f / 1.2 GM, which has three extreme aspherical elements, will deliver shallow depth of field, sharp focus and clarity at the edges of the frame, even when fully open, while its 11-blade circular aperture system will provide a super smooth and creamy bokeh.

As usual, the f / 1.2 50mm GM comes with linear focus engines that deliver fast, quiet autofocus performance with minimal vibrations. Tthe lens itself offers a minimum focusing distance of 1.3 feet.

But perhaps more importantly, the GM f / 1.2 50mm remains relatively compact and lightweight, measuring 3.5 x 4.375 inches and weighing 27.5 ounces, while still including dust and water resistance and a fluorine-coated front element to help reduce fingerprints.

The big picture: what it is already the largest collection of native lenses for its next-generation mirrorless full frame cameras, Sony appears to be extending its leadership in glass, while companies like Canon and Nikon have older lenses from their DSLR days as they work to launch new ones glasses for your RF and Z mount mirrorless cameras.

Sony FE f / 1.2 50mm G Master is due to go on sale sometime in May.
