Some Bethesda games now on the Xbox Game Pass are getting increased frame rates on the Xbox Series X / S

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass platform has gained momentum with the addition of 20 new Bethesda Softworks titles starting today, and now a quarter of those games will see performance increases on next-generation Xbox consoles in a future update. Performance gains are in the frame rate thanks to a new feature appropriately named by Microsoft last month called FPS Boost, which can double the frame rates of old games using the new Xbox hardware without requiring developers to do any manual work .

Games that will see performance increases with frame rate jumps of up to 60 frames per second include Arkane Studios’ Dishonored: Definitive Edition and Fanged and Bethesda Game Studios’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76.

The announcement was made during a live YouTube broadcast on Friday between Xbox Live Program Director Larry Hryb (also known as “Major Nelson”) and Chief Communication Officer Jeff Rubenstein, in which Rubenstein discussed the benefits that new Xbox Series X / S can bring to older Bethesda titles. The games, although available now, do not yet have FPS Boost mode enabled at the moment, but Microsoft plans to add it as an optional toggle soon.

Microsoft said in its announcement yesterday that “some of these games will also benefit from FPS Boost on the Xbox Series X / S”, although it did not specify at the time. He also said that 16 of the 20 Bethesda games that will come to the Xbox Game Pass would be available on PC and xCloud, in addition to Xbox consoles. You can find a list of which gaming platforms are available here.
