Saturday Night Live scoffed at former President Trump’s impeachment trial this weekend, calling it a “stupidest trial,” just hours after senators voted to absolve him on Saturday.
“The jurors who were deciding the case were those attacked by the defendant. The trial took place at the crime scene. Then, right after the trial ended, one of the jurors who voted for Trump’s acquittal ran out and said, ‘Someone has to sue this guy, it was him, that man must be in jail! ‘”Joked Colin Jost, co-host of the Weekend Update fake news segment.
Jost was referring to the leader of the Republican Party in the Senate, Mitch McConnell, who voted for Trump’s acquittal because he said it would be unconstitutional to condemn a former president, but said, “He hasn’t gotten away with anything yet.”
“President Trump is still responsible for everything he did while in office,” McConnell said after the vote to absolve Trump of the charges that he incited the January 6 rebellion in the United States Capitol. “We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil cases.”

Jost also said that if a president should be impeached for anything, it would be for “sending a mob to kill the vice president”.
He said he feels bad for former Vice President Mike Pence because “43 of his friends from work were like, come on, Mike, they just tried to hang you. Stop being a drama queen.”
Only seven Republicans voted with Democrats on Saturday to condemn the former president for “inciting insurrection”.
The comedian suggested that President Biden should tell liberal protesters to address the United States Capitol because, in his acquittal, the senators “said everything was fine”.

Earlier, at the show’s cold opening, cast member Kate McKinnon as Senator Lindsey Graham stated that absolution was a “big day for 30% of America.”
