SNL Michael Che Transphobia over the weekend Backlash Update

During the segment, host Michael Che said: “President Biden signed an executive order repealing Trump’s ban on transgender people from serving in the military. It’s good news, except that Biden is calling politics, ‘Don’t ask, don’t bend. ‘”

It didn’t take long for people on Twitter to tell the transphobia joke:

What is Saturday Night Live’s strange obsession with transphobic absurdities? Honestly, I don’t understand. It is so lazy and sad. Last night, Michael Che joked about repealing the trans ban being called “don’t ask, don’t stick” – who is this “joke” for? https://t.co/Uu2JpXlrU1

Honestly, @nbcsnl, we’ve been ridiculed enough for 1 eternity. Do it better. I am tired of seeing our genitals and our existence being discussed, obsessed and ridiculed. #transisbeautiful https://t.co/PhJ5G9sLmX

I didn’t watch SNL tonight, but I was not at all surprised to learn that Michael Che used the lifting of the transgender military ban to be a usual transphobic. His transphobia is not funny and he needs to ask himself why he wants to be in the same category as JKR. #SNL

This is not the first time that Michael is accused of being transphobic in SNL – he previously named and missed Caitlyn Jenner’s genre in a 2019 “Weekend Update”
