‘SNL’ assumes absolution of Trump impeachment

Carlson, played by Alex Moffat, opened Saturday’s episode of NBC’s variety show program with a rapid drop in non-fear-promoting sequiturs like “AOC is hiding in your home now? Wouldn’t you miss it” and “pronouns for dogs “Come on. Everyone knows they are boys. ”

He then immediately jumped into the news of the impeachment by inviting Senator Lindsey Graham, played by Kate McKinnon, on her Fox News program.

“Thank you, Tucker. It’s a great day for 30% of America,” said McKinnon as Graham.

Graham of McKinnon then explained that the trial is now over and the country can focus on real issues like arresting Hillary Clinton and freeing Britney Spears.

The fake Graham then brought in Senator Ted Cruz, who was played by Aidy Bryant.

“I can say that the beard is working,” said Carlson de Moffat.

“Well, you would be the first,” replied Bryant’s Bryant.

Moffat’s Carlson then showed clips of Trump’s defense lawyers, like Bruce Castor, played by Mikey Day.

“Hello, Senate and other serious people, I want to apologize for not being prepared the last time I was here. My wife bought decaf,” said Day’s Castor. “As you all know, I am the chief prosecutor – no, sorry – I am the lawyer. I know the difference. As Trump’s bailiff – no, I’m not sure, either.”

Finally, Carlson de Moffat brought the Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, played by Beck Bennett, to talk about why he voted for Trump’s absolution.

“Everyone knows that you cannot impeach an ex-president,” he said. “That’s why we should have impeached him earlier, when I said we couldn’t.”

Carlson de Moffat then asked what he really thought of Trump.

“I think he is guilty as the devil and the worst person I have ever met,” said McConnell de Bennett. “God, that was good. I’ve been keeping it inside my neck for four years.”

Carlson de Moffat then ended his segment by saying the show’s famous catchphrase, “Live … From New York! It’s Saturday night!”
