“It was a selfish decision. There is no reason I can give you a second chance. I don’t expect anyone to forgive me, but I wish they would at least let me be able to show them that I learned from that, “said Sylar Mack in an interview with GMA.
Mack traveled to the Caribbean island on November 27 and, under the island’s rules, was required to be quarantined for 14 days.
But after two days in isolation and a negative COVID-19 test, Mack removed his wrist monitor, breaching the quarantine to watch his boyfriend – a professional jet skier – compete in a race.
“It was a conscious decision … I can’t give you a good reason for that,” said Mack.
Both Mack and her boyfriend, Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, accused of complicity and complicity, were arrested and initially ordered to pay a fine and do 40 hours of community service.
But after legal comings and goings, the couple was sentenced to two months in prison, serving 32 days.
“I deserved it. I was like, ‘You know what I made that mistake and it sucks, you know, but you did it yourself,'” said Mack.
So far, Mack has never tested positive for COVID-19 and it doesn’t look like anyone on the beach fell ill that day. However, Mack admits that if something bad had happened, she would have been responsible.
“I would never have been able to live with myself, knowing that I could have been the reason someone else had – even if I was just sick, it devours me.”
Meanwhile, her family is happy that she is safe and back in America.
“I got the first call, I think, which says she was in trouble. Her boyfriend called while the authorities were talking to her, ”said her grandmother. “You could probably hear it. He said, ‘please don’t be mad at her. And I say, ‘but she knows better.’ “

“It’s the biggest relief I finally slept through the night,” said his grandmother. “And it’s kind of hard to fall asleep when someone you love so much you know they’re not sleeping, and they’re uncomfortable and I know she’s a tough girl, but she had to be scared.”
